Cathedral Primary School

A creative and inspirational space to feed young minds

Brief:

The school asked Bisley to help them create fourteen classrooms, a multi-purpose hall and offices in the unusual and restricted space. It was important that the interior of the building was respected and that it reflected the schools approach to providing the pupils with a stimulating environment to learn in.

Solutions:

Because the library is an historic building we had to work with it, not against it. We manufactured and installed bright, bespoke fitted furniture for every room in the school, including colourful storage walls for the classrooms built into the alcoves. Each classroom was also supplied with two matching mobile cloak rooms for the children’s coats, bags and lunch boxes. Multi-use, practical staff room storage was created original 1930s steel framed newspaper storage bins.

Results:

All the storage was designed to maximise teaching space and give the school ultimate storage flexibility – we even managed to fit a reading nook under the stairs. The coloured laminate, mounted on to ply board with a polished edge used throughout gave the furniture a softness and beauty appropriate to the building and its use and gives the pupils a stimulating learning environment.

“It was an incredibly challenging and unique design project, many of the items designed were specific for the space they were to inhabit. Bisley has the experience and skills to bring ideas to life – from tailoring functional storage furniture to fit curious spaces to applying our energising colour palette”
