Tropical Fruit Warehouse

Tropical Fruit House, located in Dublin, Ireland, is a former warehouse originally built in the 1890s. The building has since been transformed into an 85,000 sq ft office development, combining historic architectural features with contemporary design. Many of the warehouse’s original details have been preserved, thoughtfully blended into the modern design to create a workspace that respects its heritage while meeting the demands of a forward-thinking occupier. Alongside the design itself, the building has achieved both LEED Platinum and BER A3 certification, meeting the highest sustainability standards. The transformation also included a significant investment in improving the surrounding public realm, creating a vibrant pedestrian-friendly environment with panoramic views across the River Liffey.

As part of the fit-out, the client required 658 locker doors that would provide secure, robust storage while maintaining the building’s modern aesthetic. Bisley’s Deco range was perfect to meet this requirement, offering a sleek, double-skinned steel design that not only delivers durability but also integrates Bisley’s BeSmart™ technology. This end-to-end smart service enhances functionality, giving users contactless means of access and the highest level of data security. Deco’s minimalist design, with its flush finish and clean lines, elevated the interior, offering a contemporary alternative to traditional steel lockers.

Working closely with the client, the Bisley team analysed the five-storey floorplate to design a tailored locker system suited to the building’s flexible working environment. Low-level Deco locker banks were placed between desks, providing convenient personal storage without disrupting sightlines across the open-plan space. Some end of desk units integrated planter toppers to inject biophilia and texture throughout the workspaces. These were paired with taller Deco units, positioned in dedicated areas such as corridors and utility rooms, offering more spacious storage options where needed.

All pieces were finished in a refined monochrome palette of black and white, complete with matching black hardware and bespoke vinyl decals to tie the scheme together. The project was successfully delivered by the Bisley team based at the Dublin showroom, with dedicated support from the BeSmart team to ensure seamless technology integration. The fit-out itself, completed by SIG Workplace, was delivered with exceptional efficiency.

Special thanks also go to architects Perkins&Will, project managers Turner & Townsend, and contractor Structure Tone Dublin for their collaborative approach. The project was not only a design success but also a landmark achievement, being recognised as the largest commercial fit-out in Ireland in 2024.
