German artist Felix Kindermann has showcased the iconic Bisley MultiDrawer as part of the Common Ground exhibition at Cabanon, Paris’ Contemporary Art Library.

Common Ground and Felix Kindermann

The Common Ground exhibition at Cabanon, located in the heart of Paris, brought together international artists across performance, photography, video and sculpture, exploring the conflicts and challenges that shape urban environments. Throughout the exhibition, Kindermann presented a new installation featuring the Bisley MultiDrawer, reimagined as part of his conceptual practice.

An interdisciplinary artist, Kindermann draws inspiration from architectural structures and everyday objects, transforming them into installations that question how we experience shared spaces. For Common Ground, he worked with furniture and steel for the first time, selecting the MultiDrawer for its timeless aesthetic and balanced proportions.

Felix said; "The timeless iconic aesthetics of Bisley as a worldwide known brand and object perfectly supported the concept as well as the balanced proportions and the colours."

Experimenting with transfers, projections, vinyl and magnets, Kindermann deconstructed the MultiDrawer to frame and present layered imagery within each drawer. The clean lines and classic grey finish of the MultiDrawer accented the black-and-white visuals, reinforcing the installation’s conceptual impact. The piece reflected the long art historical engagement with public space, from architectural interventions to street-based practices, while also remaining attuned to global conflicts unfolding in those same spaces.

A continued partnership

This collaboration marks the beginning of an ongoing partnership between Bisley and Felix Kindermann. In October 2026, Kindermann will present a major solo exhibition in Belgium, created in collaboration with the Picture Collection of the New York Public Library.

Reflecting on this future project, Kindermann said:

"This exhibition is inspired by an image of the moon which I found in the Picture Collection of the New York public library, about a year ago. In this unique library, the entire alphabet is categorised in images which are subjectively cut out from all kinds of magazines or newspapers before being archived by its employees."

"While the moon, for me, serves as a mirror of our human condition, it inspired me to create this exhibit, depicting human categorisation of the world. In fact, any structure, whether language or image, is anthropological as a human agreement. Turning such strong and beautiful images to the outside of the units makes them not only accessible, but they become a sculpture and a vulnerable body again."

Conclusion

We are proud to see our design classics inspire new creative dialogues. The MultiDrawer’s inclusion in Common Ground reflects not only its enduring cultural relevance but also our ongoing commitment to supporting art, design and innovation across disciplines.
