Celebrating Pride Month at Bisley

Jun 28, 2024|

Throughout June, we’ve been celebrating Pride month at Bisley!

Pride Month is dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities worldwide, and we planned lots of activities to engage our team across Bisley throughout June.

We started with a daily music poll on our internal communications platform, which enables the team to pick their favourite song to build a dedicated Bisley Pride playlist. We also shared resources, ranging from the origins and history of Pride, including the Stonewall Riots, the first Pride parade, as well as different celebrations held across the world today.

Next, we held a fun quiz with questions ranging from Pride’s history to contemporary topics. Each participant of the quiz received a goodie bag filled with sweets, a Pride wristband. Additionally, a donation was made to Stonewall Cymru, an organisation of bold, passionate people fighting for the freedom, equity and potential of LGBTQ+ people everywhere. The overall prize winner won a hamper filled with a range of beautiful items from shops that support Pride or give back to LGBTQ+ communities in some way. These included a multicoloured basket made by Rwenzori, a company that promotes trade skills, employment, and helping to achieve long-term improvement to the lives of disadvantaged communities in Africa. A rainbow steel water bottle by Smash, a company with a focus on sustainability and supporting their local community by donating to schools through schemes based on reduced packaging, and a body wash set by Faith in Nature, a family-owned B Corp who are partners with The World Land Trust to be carbon balanced.

Congratulations to Richard Hunt, our Health, Safety, and Environment Officer, for winning the hamper!

We then welcomed Cerys Presents to Bisley for an informative inclusivity workshop focused on gender, sexual orientation, and pronouns. The session sparked interesting and open conversations that continued long after the workshop concluded.

To culminate our Pride celebrations, an ice cream van visited our Newport site on Wednesday, and the majority of the team enjoyed ice creams in the blazing sunshine – a perfect day for it!

While Pride Month is coming to an end, the conversation and learning about Pride’s history will continue. This year, we’ve already celebrated International Women’s Day, recognized Mental Health Awareness Week, and celebrated Pride Month. Next, we’re preparing for the Macmillan Coffee Morning in September and International Men’s Day in November.
