Bisley wins largest multi-million-pound furniture contract in its history

Jan 14, 2025|

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious multi-million pound 3-year FF&E contract for the supply and installation for all associated furniture in student bedrooms, kitchens, Social Hubs and Living areas for the University of Sussex, via Balfour Beatty. This award is part of the £200m construction project that Bisley has been engaged in for the last 3-years, working through a rigorous design and tender campaign.

West Slope will add almost 2,000 new student accommodation rooms to the existing East Slope campus, as well as over 250 kitchens, a new supermarket, café, and study spaces. West Slope also features a brand-new Health and Wellbeing Centre, which is due to open in 2026, and will bring together NHS services and the University wellbeing services at the heart of campus.

In line with the University’s mission to be one of the most sustainable in the world, The West Slope Residences will be built to BREEAM Excellent standards with green roofs, water recycling and solar panels. Bisley is proud to be positively contributing to the University’s BREEAM criteria, both with our manufactured products and from our dedicated supply chain.

This historic win for Bisley comes after a period of growth and diversification for the firm, which has included secured contracts worth £2m with two of the world’s biggest firms in Tesla and Amazon, as well as multi-million pound 4-year framework with BT Group.

The products being supplied by Bisley for this contract will span across the entire portfolio. Although selected specifically for the requirements of student accommodation, its shows how Bisley is able to diversify into the residential, consumer and build to rent markets.

The bedroom furniture being supplied is primarily from the ‘Living by Bisley’ collection, which has been customised to the specific design requirements to match the client’s specification.

The kitchens are bespoke and supplied to the same design to match the units that have been previously supplied, albeit with some slight changes in specification detailing to suit the client.

The dining room furniture is part of the Bisley Home range along with many standard Bisley Note pedestals.

There is also a large volume of non-Bisley manufactured products and loose furniture items, supplied via our UK based third party supply chain, that you would expect to find in a student / residential environment; including white goods and electrical appliances, seating and soft furnishings.

This outstanding achievement is a testimony to the hard work and focus of Bisley’s bid team consisting of Sales, Design, Operations and Purchasing, led by Graeme Mathews, Bisley Group Project Director. Graeme said; “This was a fantastic team effort from many individuals, working collaboratively together over the last 3 years. We are delighted to be supporting Balfour Beatty in delivering a first class, truly sustainable project for the University of Sussex.”

Richard Costin, Bisley CEO, said; “This is a key milestone for Bisley that demonstrates our clear commitment and focus to this sector, and to Balfour Beatty as a valued customer. Although Bisley is historically well known for our high-quality made in the UK reputation in steel storage, this continued ongoing channel and product diversification supports our strategy and evolution, as well as highlighting the importance of UK manufacturing.”

Work on The West Slope Residencies begins in August 2025.
